The best way to learn is to teach
"If you can't explain it simply, then you don't understand it" - Albert Einstein
It’s one thing to make your own brain understand something, it’s another thing to make other brains understand it too.
I make coding tutorials on youtube not only to teach others, but mainly to teach myself. It forces me to understand it in simple terms. Richard Feynman talks about the difference between knowing something, and knowing the name of something. A lot of the times when we read about a concept or idea, sometimes I wonder if I truly know it or if I just know the scripted words behind the concept.
Another major benefit of teaching others is the questions they ask you. You have one perspective, but their questions give you multiple different perspectives. I often learn a whole lot from people that comment on my youtube tutorials as well as the students I teach in real life. When I try to learn something, I try to teach it to others. You don’t have to be an expert in the area to teach it. I actually think the act of teaching is what helps you eventually become the expert.
Next time you are trying to learn something, try to teach it. Whether that’s to people in real life, or through the internet. Trust me.
